First offshore petroleum exploration permit granted since ban lifted
Australian explorer EnZed Energy has been awarded a 12-year offshore petroleum exploration permit in the Taranaki Basin, the first since the Government lifted the exploration ban.
EnZed Energy has been granted a 12-year petroleum exploration permit covering about 546 square kilometres in the offshore Taranaki Basin, specifically the Kaheru prospect. This is the first new offshore exploration permit issued since the Government lifted the ban on offshore exploration last year. The Australian company's permit represents a significant change in New Zealand's energy policy following the repeal of the previous administration's restrictions.
