Pacific ministers fail to reach consensus on condemning Chinese missile test

Foreign ministers from Pacific nations could not agree on a unified statement condemning China's nuclear-capable missile fired into Pacific waters in July.

Foreign Minister Winston Peters joined ministers from 17 other Pacific countries at the Pacific Islands Forum meeting in Fiji. The group discussed a Solomon Islands proposal for a regional security treaty and China's actions in the region. However, the ministers failed to agree on a unified statement condemning China after it fired a long-range nuclear-capable missile into Pacific waters that landed near Tuvalu.
