Veterans to visit Cook Islands after 53 years since nuclear testing mission

Nineteen former sailors who observed French nuclear testing in 1973 are making a long-delayed trip to the Cook Islands.

Nineteen veterans who were aboard frigates sent to observe French nuclear testing at Mururoa Atoll in 1973 are heading to the Cook Islands for a reunion tour. The visit represents the first time many of these sailors have returned to the region in over five decades.
