A healthcare company has been held responsible after a tetraplegic man was left without food, water, or medication for more than 12 hours.
A 51-year-old tetraplegic man was left alone in his sofa chair for more than 12 hours after a carer failed to turn up, leaving him unable to move and suffering painful spasms. The man had no access to food, water, or medication during the incident on 26 October 2021. The Deputy Health & Disability Commissioner has held Healthcare NZ responsible for the failure.
