National’s election campaign claims about Labour taxes lack factual foundation

Fact-checkers say the National Party is misrepresenting Labour's tax policies ahead of November's election.

The National Party has claimed Labour will introduce 11 new taxes if elected, but fact-checkers say most of these proposals come from other left-bloc parties rather than Labour itself. Labour has announced one new tax on investment property and the reversal of a business subsidy. Some of National's claims, such as assertions about a ute tax or streaming service tax, lack any official Labour policy announcement to support them.
