Christchurch-born ultra-runner Sophie Woods completed a 2000km crossing of the Alps in 29 days, breaking the existing record.
Sophie Woods, a Cantabrian ultra-runner, has become the fastest person to traverse the Via Alpina, crossing eight countries in 29 days over a distance of 2000 kilometres. She ran up to 19 hours daily, starting runs at 3am each day. Despite facing heatwaves, storms and wildfires along the route, the Christchurch-born runner achieved the new record.
