A solo sailor was rescued from rough conditions off the Canterbury coast after nine hours of Coastguard operations.

A solo yachtie was rescued by Coastguard crews off Motunau Island, about 10 kilometres off the Canterbury coast, after being stranded in rough conditions. The nine-hour rescue operation involved six volunteer crew members. The 30-foot yacht was towed to Lyttelton.
