Russian ballistic missiles are becoming increasingly successful at getting through Ukrainian defensive systems. Unlike cruise missiles that fly like pilotless aircraft, ballistic missiles are launched vertically and descend steeply toward targets at several times the speed of sound, making them harder to intercept.
