Record winter power demand met but Transpower warns against complacency

Cold snaps pushed New Zealand's electricity demand to new highs in recent weeks, culminating in a record peak of 7,415MW in early August. Batteries, industrial flexibility, new generation and system evolution have so far allowed the grid to cope with the surge. However, the chief executive of Transpower has cautioned that there is no room for complacency as the nation manages its energy security.
