NZ First has announced a new policy called the Kiwi Kids Grant, which would provide tax-free payments of $5000 per year for the first three years of each child's life. The policy applies to families' first, second and third children born after it comes into force, totalling $45,000 per child. The party says the policy is designed to address what it describes as the country's declining birthrate. Former Defence Minister Ron Mark is returning to NZ First as a candidate.
