Nurse dies of hypothermia after losing track in Arthur’s Pass
An experienced tramper died of hypothermia in Arthur's Pass National Park after becoming lost above the bushline during a day walk.
Rebecca Woolley, a student nurse and experienced tramper, set out in fine weather on Mount Aicken Track but lost the marked route and became lost in unmarked alpine terrain above the bushline. She died of hypothermia during the incident. A coronial inquiry called on trampers to carry appropriate navigation tools before venturing into unmarked terrain.
