Ngāi Tahu to manage Molesworth Station, New Zealand’s largest farm
Ngāi Tahu will soon take over management of Molesworth Station, a 181,000-hectare farm in the South Island, restoring iwi connections to inland whenua severed by colonisation.
Ngāi Tahu will manage Molesworth Station, New Zealand's largest farm at 181,000 hectares, through its subsidiary Ngāi Tahu Farming. The station, located inland of Awatere south of Blenheim, has been under private management for 24 years and will remain in Crown ownership while becoming publicly accessible. The takeover represents a restoration of iwi management and connection to the inland whenua, where Ngāi Tahu and other iwi historically travelled seasonally to harvest resources including the taonga species tikumu.
