New curriculum teaches financial literacy from Year 1 onwards
New Zealand is introducing financial education across primary and secondary schools, starting with basics in Year 1 and progressing to investment concepts by Year 8.
A new curriculum will teach financial literacy to students across multiple year levels. Year 1 students will learn that money is used to pay for things, while by Year 8 students will study financial goal-setting and shares. The approach mirrors how other important life skills are taught in schools.
