National’s social media ban bill faces coalition scepticism
National is preparing to take its under-16 social media ban bill to Cabinet, but coalition partners Act and NZ First have signalled strong opposition.
Education Minister Erica Stanford is preparing to advance National's proposed ban on social media for under-16s to Cabinet. However, Act leader David Seymour has called the proposal a "dog with fleas" and described it as "very unwise" without coalition support. NZ First leader Winston Peters has also called any such moves a "seriously big mistake". Labour has requested a copy of the bill before deciding whether to support it.
