Further $6m in costs found for failed MBIE border project
A failed immigration border security project has cost $6m more than previously disclosed, bringing total losses to about $39m.
Immigration New Zealand's Biometric Capability Upgrade project, cancelled after costing roughly $33m, has revealed an additional $6m in expenses. The discovery emerged when the MBIE chief executive informed the Immigration Minister, prompting concerns that even this figure may not represent the full cost. The matter has been referred to multiple inquiries, including the privileges committee, after the ministry faced criticism for not disclosing the project's termination to parliament in March.
