The Ministry of Social Development has acknowledged a second significant error in weeks that caused people to miss benefit payments. The failure stems from a rushed law change requiring beneficiaries to reconfirm their circumstances annually, with the high volume of responses overwhelming the system's processing capacity. This follows an earlier error that saw nearly 15,000 pensioners lose their Winter Energy Payment after being incorrectly required to prove eligibility for a non-means-tested benefit. All missed payments have since been resumed and backdated.
