Minister backs new wool industry body funded by grower levy
The government is considering a new wool industry body funded through grower levies and government money, more than two decades after the NZ Wool Board was disbanded.
A minister overseeing the wool industry says a recent trip to India demonstrated the value of collective marketing for New Zealand wool overseas. An industry group is developing a proposal for a new strong wool body that could be funded through a combination of grower levy, industry contribution and government support. This follows the dissolution of the NZ Wool Board over 20 years ago and the end of wool research levies 16 years earlier.
