Mercury reports record earnings of $1.07 billion on strong hydro conditions

Energy company Mercury lifted its dividend after earnings jumped 36% to $1.07 billion, driven by favourable hydro conditions and increased generation.

Mercury posted earnings of $1.068 billion for the year to June 30, up from $786 million a year earlier, exceeding upgraded guidance by $18 million. Operating cash flow rose 58% to $762 million while total generation increased 15% to 9,070 gigawatt hours. The company reinvested a record $710 million in new and existing generation assets and has reviewed its dividend policy in light of the strong performance.
