Mayors push back against fast-tracked housing developments
Several New Zealand mayors are calling for the Government to pause fast-tracked greenfield housing projects, but the Infrastructure Minister says he cannot pause approvals already underway.
The mayors of Auckland and Queenstown have written to Infrastructure Minister Chris Bishop requesting an immediate pause on fast-tracked residential housing developments. The call comes as fast-track approvals continue for greenfield projects, including the Delmore development north of Auckland. The Infrastructure Minister has indicated he cannot pause fast-track decisions already approved under the legislation, despite the mayors' concerns about the process.
