Southland man dies after being struck by branch while felling pine tree
A 54-year-old man died from injuries sustained when a falling branch struck him while he was cutting down a large pine tree on his family property.
Edwin Coulter, 54, was struck by a branch while attempting to fell and top large pine trees on a family property in Invercargill using a pruning belt and chainsaw. He died from internal bleeding caused by the impact. The death has prompted a coroner to highlight the risks associated with DIY tree felling work.
