A new locally owned bank has opened in the Maldives with a New Zealand-raised entrepreneur chairing its board.

Maldives Premier Bank has formally opened this month as a 100% locally owned financial institution. Nurain Janah, who was raised in Auckland, serves as the bank's non-executive chair. The venture has been two years in development and is designed to serve both domestic clients and international investors in the Maldivian tourism sector.
