Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes near Whakatāne

A 4.1 magnitude earthquake centred west of Whakatāne rattled the eastern Bay of Plenty on Tuesday evening.

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck about 15 kilometres west of Whakatāne in the early evening, causing light shaking across the eastern Bay of Plenty. The quake occurred at a shallow depth and was felt by over 1700 people in the area.
