Labour and National hit historic low in combined polling support
A new poll shows Labour and National have simultaneously fallen to 30% or lower for the first time in over 50 years of New Zealand polling.
The latest Verian poll for 1News reveals Labour at 30% and National at 29%, marking an unprecedented moment in New Zealand polling history. The combined 59% support for the two major parties is the lowest in three decades, and if this trend continues to the election, it would represent the lowest National-plus-Labour result since the National Party's founding in the 1930s. Unlike previous low points, this decline is not due to one party collapsing while the other gains support, but rather both parties declining in tandem. The Opportunity Party polled at 8%, which could give it a kingmaker role under MMP.
