A plan by local growers to take over McCain's Hastings vegetable processing facility has collapsed after the company removed key equipment.
Growers in Hawke's Bay have given up their attempt to acquire McCain's vegetable processing plant in Hastings. The bid fell apart after McCain made essential processing equipment unavailable to potential buyers. McCain announced the factory would close by January 2027.
