The Green Party has introduced a bill to outlaw what it calls price gouging by New Zealand's supermarket duopoly.
The Green Party has unveiled a Member's Bill that would make it illegal for supermarkets to charge prices deemed excessive compared with the cost of supplying a product plus reasonable profit margin. The proposal would allow fines for breaches. Co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick says the rules would give the Commerce Commission more power and that smaller grocery businesses would not be targeted.
