Government announces free cervical screening from March 2027
Free cervical screening will be available to all women aged 25 to 69 from March next year, benefiting an estimated 786,000 additional women.
The Government will make cervical screening free for all women aged 25 to 69 from 1 March 2027, expanding access from the current system where only Māori and Pacific women, Community Services Card holders, and those overdue for screening receive free tests. Health Minister Simeon Brown said the move aims to eliminate cervical cancer and will benefit approximately 786,000 additional women. The Government has also released a Cervical Cancer Elimination Plan targeting fewer than four cases per 100,000 women annually across all population groups by 2040.
