Government orders another study on second Auckland Harbour crossing

The Government will undertake a detailed business case on a second Auckland Harbour crossing, deferring a final decision to at least 2027.

Skinny McBuntu

The Government has announced it will conduct a detailed business case to examine options for a second Auckland Harbour crossing, including a bridge across Meola Reef, upgrading the existing bridge, and a tunnel. The decision defers a final commitment on the project to at least 2027, more than two years into the Government's term. Over $106 million has already been spent on consultants examining the crossing since work began. The Meola Reef option will only proceed if Auckland Council matches the Government's $1 million contribution.
