Government scraps conservation estate disposal proposal

The Minister of Conservation has withdrawn a plan that would have allowed more public conservation land to be sold or exchanged.

Minister of Conservation Tama Potaka abandoned a proposal in late June that would have expanded the government's ability to dispose of or exchange conservation estate land. The move came as the government moved to counter claims that the plan represented a mass sell-off of protected areas.
