Education Ministry abandons plan to cut school building contractors

The Education Ministry has reversed a proposal to reduce its school construction contractors from 190 to between nine and 15 operators.

The Ministry of Education will not proceed with its planned overhaul of how it selects contractors for school property builds. The ministry had been consulting the 190 builders it currently engages on proposed changes that would have significantly reduced the number of suppliers to between nine and 15 large operators across three regions. The reversal follows backlash during the consultation period.
