Datagrid to build first international internet cable from South Island to Melbourne
Datagrid has signed a contract to lay a 2,300km submarine cable connecting Invercargill and Melbourne, the first international cable from the South Island.
Datacentre builder Datagrid has secured partners Alcatel Submarine Networks and OMS Group to construct the subsea cable, which the company calls the Tasman Ring Network. The 2,300-kilometre cable will connect Invercargill to Melbourne, marking the first direct international internet cable route from the South Island.
