Cameron Brewer on why humour matters most in Parliament
Commerce and consumer affairs minister Cameron Brewer says the MPs who succeed are those with good humour who don't take themselves too seriously.
Cameron Brewer, who entered Parliament in 2023 as Upper Harbour MP before being promoted to commerce and consumer affairs minister earlier this year, reflects on his 25-year journey in politics. The first-term MP, who started as a National Party researcher in 1998, believes the key to longevity in Parliament is maintaining a sense of humour, not sweating the small stuff, and keeping perspective on the big picture. Brewer, now 50, notes he once thought entering Parliament at that age would be too late, but has found it the perfect time in his life.
