Christchurch authorities have rejected an unsolicited proposal from a consortium including global port operator DP World and local rūnanga to operate Lyttelton Port.
Christchurch City Holdings has rejected a proposal from the Tōnui Consortium, which includes DP World and three Ngāi Tahu rūnanga, to take over operations at Lyttelton Port Company. The bid was deemed not compelling enough to warrant further consideration. The rejection came after unions and local politicians, including Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger, spoke out against the unsolicited proposal. The consortium has since criticised the decision and raised concerns about Christchurch's governance and how it may affect investor confidence in the city.
