Act, Te Pāti Māori and NZ First unveil education and family support policies
Three political parties announced new policies on classroom discipline, Māori education governance, and tax payments for children over the weekend.
Act proposed giving teachers power to remove seriously disruptive students from classrooms and use reasonable force to prevent harm, with parents facing fines up to $3000 for failing to attend behaviour meetings. Te Pāti Māori outlined plans for a Māori Education Authority to restore Māori governance over education, alongside free school lunches and transport. NZ First announced a $5000 annual tax-free payment per child for the first three years of life, for each family's first three children, aimed at addressing falling fertility rates.
