New Zealand is among the first countries to receive satellite-to-mobile service through a ground station opened today by 2degrees and AST SpaceMobile.
AST SpaceMobile, a Nasdaq-listed satellite company initially backed by Google and Samsung, has opened a ground station near Palmerston North in partnership with 2degrees. The company operates 13 supersized satellites in orbit and aims to provide satellite-to-mobile service. New Zealand is among the first countries to access this service, positioning it as competition to Elon Musk's Starlink.
