Work and Income to reduce security guard numbers

The Ministry of Social Development plans to cut security staff at Work and Income centres, reversing increases made after two employees were killed in 2014.

The Ministry of Social Development is set to reduce the number of security guards at Work and Income centres. The extra 100 guards were hired following the deaths of two Ashburton employees in 2014. Security workers and their union have raised concerns about the safety implications of the cuts.
