Four jet skiers rescued from rocky waters off Mangawhai Beach

What happened

Four jet skiers were rescued from the rocky western shore of Taranga Island (Hen Island), about 22km offshore from Bream Bay in Northland, after Coastguard Mangawhai received reports of men in trouble at 6.20pm on Friday. The Kokaka Rescue crew arrived by 7pm to find the four young men clinging to the rocks. Two were suffering from mild hypothermia. Crew gave them warm jackets and blankets and placed them in the forward cabin to warm up. The journey back to Mangawhai took around an hour, arriving just before 9pm. The men warmed up sufficiently to return home, and rescue crew helped them reload their jet skis onto a trailer before standing down.
